What AI does in procurement, part by part.
Procurement is seven jobs, not one, and different companies sell software for each of them. This page walks the whole cycle, names the kinds of tools that do each part, and is specific about where these models help and where they fail.
Then it says which part is ours, because the honest version of that answer is narrow. Procurea does supplier discovery: finding and screening the companies you could buy from. It does not run the other six, and if a suite is what you need, the table below points at the companies that sell one.

Seven parts, seven different markets.
The phrase AI procurement software usually means one of the suites in the middle rows, with model-driven features added to work it already did. It rarely means the last row, which is a different problem: the suites manage suppliers you have, discovery is about the ones you do not.

Where it helps, and where it quietly fails.
The pattern is consistent across every part of the cycle. These models are good at reading, labelling and drafting, and bad at facts nobody published. Most disappointed procurement pilots are a good tool pointed at the second kind of job.
Where it genuinely helps
- Reading unstructured text at volume. Company pages, spec sheets, spend descriptions, clauses. Turning prose into a field is most of the real work in procurement data, and it is what these models do best.
- Working in languages nobody on the team reads. The maker you need may describe itself only in German, Turkish or Italian. Our own engine searches in 26 languages for exactly this reason.
- Turning a request into a structured form. Intake is the clearest win in the whole cycle. A person types what they need and the system produces a requisition with the right category and approver attached.
- Classifying. Deciding which of four hundred categories a spend line belongs to is a labelling job at a scale no person will finish. Same for telling a maker from a reseller.
- First drafts. An enquiry, a clause, a rejection, a supplier email in a language you do not write. Faster to edit than to write, as long as a person still signs it off.
- Finding the deviation. Comparing a document against a playbook and flagging what does not match. The model reads, the person decides, and that division of labour is the one that works.
Where it fails
- Anything that exists only inside your company. Whether a supplier is already approved, what you paid last year, which contract covers this line. That is your master data, and a model without access to it will answer anyway.
- Numbers a website does not state. Capacity, machine list, true lead time, price. This is the line we hold in our own product: the engine classifies a company from how it describes itself and does not verify a factory.
- Certification status. A logo on a supplier page is not a certificate. Only the body that issued it can confirm one, and reading a website is not checking a register.
- Negotiation, and anything carrying a relationship. Price, concessions, the favour you call in when a line is down. None of that is a text problem, and treating it as one is how a tool loses a supplier.
- Failing quietly. Wrong output arrives formatted, confident and plausible, which is the expensive part. It is why every supplier row we return carries its score, and why all the published runs keep their rejections attached.
Our own number for the last one: across 8 published campaigns the engine read 4,656 company pages and dropped 1,053 candidates with a recorded reason. The rejections stay in the published files, because a tool that only shows its hits is impossible to check.
Supplier discovery, from brief to scored list.
Discovery is the part of the cycle a suite is worst placed to cover, and the reason is structural rather than a gap in anybody's roadmap. A suite reasons over your data: your spend, your suppliers, your contracts. Discovery is a question about companies that appear nowhere in your systems, so the only place to answer it is the live web. The suites do carry supplier networks, and those answer a narrower version of the question: who has already signed up to that network.

Four stages read the web
Strategy writes the search plan, Screener opens company pages and judges each one against the brief, Enrichment looks for a published contact address, Auditor checks the rows. Searching runs in 26 languages, which is the whole point when the maker you need has never written an English page.
A scored list comes out
Each company carries its match score and how it describes itself, split into PRIMARY and RESERVE. Portals, directories and companies outside the product family are dropped with a reason. You export the list to a spreadsheet and write to the suppliers yourself.

Every run below was written as a brief, executed end to end and published with whatever came back, including the one that finished under the engine's own pass mark. How many suppliers arrive depends on how many exist in the category, which is why the spread is this wide and why the failed run is still here.

7 to 170 suppliers per brief, in 4 to 16 minutes. The commercial kitchen equipment run returned 7 and is published as a failure, with the reason attached: the search kept finding manufacturers where the brief wanted dealers.
What this page is not saying about us.
A category page is where overreach usually happens: explain a market, then imply you cover it. So the boundary is written down instead.
- Procurea is not a procurement suite. It does not manage requisitions, purchase orders, invoices or approvals, and it holds no record of the suppliers you already buy from.
- It does not send enquiries or RFQs, chase replies, or collect and compare quotes. Those parts exist in the codebase and are switched off across the whole product.
- It does not integrate with an ERP, a CRM or an accounting system. There is no connector, no Enterprise plan and no public API: the only interface is a file you export.
- It does not audit supplier risk, produce scorecards or calculate savings. The engine never sees a price, so any saving figure attributed to it is invented.
- It does not verify machines, capacity or certificates. Certificates are what a supplier states on its own pages, and the product only tracks the expiry date of the ones a supplier uploads itself.

Across 8 published campaigns the engine read 4,656 company pages and returned between 7 and 170 suppliers per brief in 4 to 16 minutes.
- Is Procurea an AI procurement platform?
- No. Procurea is a supplier sourcing tool: you describe what you need to buy, and its agents read the live web in 26 languages and hand back a scored list of suppliers you can export to a spreadsheet. It covers one workflow inside procurement, supplier discovery, and it is not a platform for running the rest of the cycle.
