ONE REAL CAMPAIGN, BRIEF “DEEP GROOVE BALL BEARINGS 6204, ISO 9001 MANUFACTURERS, DIRECT PRODUCERS ONLY”, SEARCHED WORLDWIDE, EXCLUDING CHINA. NOT AN AVERAGE.

The brief, and why it was written that way

A part number, an ISO 9001 requirement, and one instruction that made this the hardest brief in the programme: direct producers only.

6204 is a standardised deep groove ball bearing. Thousands of companies sell it. A few dozen make it. A plain search for the part number returns a wall of distributors, marketplaces and catalogue sites, all of them technically correct and none of them what a buyer sourcing at volume needs.

The brief was searched worldwide with China excluded, which for bearings is a demanding combination: it removes the largest producing country and asks what remains.

The engine read 531 company pages to get here, and the first name worth keeping appeared after 54 seconds. It threw away 87 that it read and judged too weak to be worth enriching and 4 that were borderline and got sampled out. A further 6 went to the reserve pile, which is the engine saying it is not sure.

What is actually in the file

It took the longest of any run and returned a fraction of what the packaging brief did. Both facts are the category, not the software. There is simply less to find, and telling a maker from a reseller requires opening the page rather than reading the search result.

What came back is genuinely useful. India leads the count, then the United States, Germany, Japan and Hong Kong. The highest scoring entries include a British specialist, a Latvian works, two Turkish producers and a Slovak name, which is a good illustration of why the search reads more than English: a European bearing manufacturer's most informative page is usually not its English one.

Around half the shortlist came with an email address and about half published a certification, which for industrial components is normal. These companies sell through technical enquiry, not through a web form.

The 30 highest scoring of 39, sorted by match score. The other 9 rows are in the workbook, in these same columns, with the contact addresses the campaign found.

Score is the engine’s own, out of 100. Specialization is its one line reading of the company’s own pages, so it describes how a company presents itself rather than what anybody confirmed on site. Certificates are printed as each company publishes them and are not verified with the issuing body. Contact addresses are in the workbook only: several are patterns rather than discoveries, and a guessed address printed publicly is a wrong fact about a real company.

What it threw away

91 candidates dropped, by reason

Reason codeWhat the code meansCount
B5_DROP_WEAKRead, then judged too weak to enrich87
B5_SAMPLE_SKIPBorderline, sampled out4

The reason is recorded per reason code, not per company. The pipeline counts how many candidates each rule dropped and keeps no reason against an individual name, so this table says how the 91 were lost and cannot say which company sits behind any one of the counts.

A missing certificate never drops a good maker. It lowers a score, and the score is a number you can argue with.

Where this stops being enough

"Direct producers only" is screened from how a company describes itself, and in the bearing trade that line is genuinely blurred. Several large names both manufacture and factor other people's product, and their pages say so in different places.

If you are qualifying at volume, the check that settles it is not on the website. Ask for the plant address and the ISO 9001 certificate scope, and read whether the scope covers manufacturing or only distribution. That single document separates the two categories cleanly, and no web search can substitute for it.

Questions buyers ask about this

Why so few results compared to other categories?
Because the brief asked for makers and there are far fewer makers than sellers. A search that returned hundreds of results for this brief would be returning distributors, which is the thing the brief was written to avoid.
How is a producer told apart from a distributor?
The screen reads the company page and classifies what the business does, and it is right most of the time. The document that settles it is the ISO 9001 certificate scope, which states whether the certified activity is manufacturing or distribution. Ask for it before qualification, not after.
