Folding Carton Packaging Suppliers: One Search, Published in Full

The brief, and why it was written that way

The brief was four things: folding carton, food grade, low minimum order, direct converters. Every one of them is doing work.

"Folding carton" rules out corrugated, which is a different industry with different machines that would otherwise flood the result. "Food grade" is a certification claim a converter either publishes or does not. "Low minimum order" is the constraint that actually decides whether a small brand can buy, and it is the one a directory listing never tells you. "Direct converters" is the line that keeps out the trading companies, which are the majority of what a plain search returns in this category.

The brief was searched worldwide because packaging is a category where the useful supplier genuinely might be in Guangdong or Thuringia, and a buyer who only reads English never sees the second one.

What is actually in the file

The file reads like two lists stacked on top of each other. Near the top are names a packaging buyer already knows: Stora Enso, Graphic Packaging. Underneath them, scoring just as high, are converters most buyers would never have reached: a French printer, a German packaging house, an Italian converter, a Guangdong printing works.

The country spread is the part worth studying. China leads, Germany is close behind, and the United Kingdom, Thailand, India and Italy all carry real weight. That distribution is what a worldwide brief looks like when nothing is excluded, and it is a fair map of where folding carton actually gets made.

Most of the shortlist arrived with an email address, which is unusually high and is a property of this industry rather than of the search. Packaging converters sell to small buyers and publish a sales address because they want the enquiry.

A missing certificate never drops a good maker. It lowers a score, and the score is a number you can argue with.

Where this stops being enough

Two caveats before anyone treats this as a finished shortlist.

First, "low minimum order" was screened from what converters publish, and converters are optimistic about their minimums in public and specific about them on the phone. The screen can only read what is written.

Second, a small number of entries could not be placed in a country at all, usually because the page describes a group rather than a plant. They are counted in the shortlist and left off the country chart, which is why those two figures do not reconcile.
