ONE REAL CAMPAIGN, BRIEF “CATERING PARTNER FOR A 400 GUEST PRODUCT LAUNCH IN CHICAGO, FULL SERVICE”, SEARCHED UNITED STATES. NOT AN AVERAGE.

The brief, and why it was written that way

A full service catering partner for a four hundred guest product launch in Chicago. One city, one guest count, one service level.

This is the narrowest brief in the programme and the one most likely to fail on paper. City level service search is genuinely hard: a national directory will happily tell you it has two thousand caterers in Illinois, and almost none of them will take a four hundred cover corporate event with staffing and equipment. The specific thing being asked for, capacity at scale, is rarely stated in a form a machine can read.

Where they were

All 77 in United States, which is what a single country brief is supposed to return.

The engine read 423 company pages to get here, and the first name worth keeping appeared after 47 seconds. It threw away 108 that it read and judged too weak to be worth enriching and 1 that were the right business in the wrong country. A further 2 went to the reserve pile, which is the engine saying it is not sure. Yield was poor enough that the engine widened the search itself.

What is actually in the file

It worked, and the proof is not the count. It is that the names are recognisably the Chicago market: the established event catering houses, the hospitality groups that run catering arms, the operators an event producer in that city would actually shortlist. This is not a national list filtered by the word Chicago.

The rejection log says the same thing more precisely. Out of everything the engine read, exactly one company was discarded for being in the wrong place. A city level search that returns hundreds of out of town results and filters them afterwards would show a much larger number there.

Around two thirds arrived with an email address, which is high and is a property of the trade: caterers want the enquiry and publish an address to get it.

The 30 highest scoring of 77, sorted by match score. The other 47 rows are in the workbook, in these same columns, with the contact addresses the campaign found.

Score is the engine’s own, out of 100. Specialization is its one line reading of the company’s own pages, so it describes how a company presents itself rather than what anybody confirmed on site. Certificates are printed as each company publishes them and are not verified with the issuing body. Contact addresses are in the workbook only: several are patterns rather than discoveries, and a guessed address printed publicly is a wrong fact about a real company.

What it threw away

109 candidates dropped, by reason

Reason codeWhat the code meansCount
B5_DROP_WEAKRead, then judged too weak to enrich108
REGION_MISMATCHRight business, wrong country1

The reason is recorded per reason code, not per company. The pipeline counts how many candidates each rule dropped and keeps no reason against an individual name, so this table says how the 109 were lost and cannot say which company sits behind any one of the counts.

A missing certificate never drops a good maker. It lowers a score, and the score is a number you can argue with.

Where this stops being enough

Two things this file does not do for you.

It does not deduplicate trading names. At least one operator appears twice, once under the hospitality group and once under its catering brand. That is a five minute problem for a person and an embarrassing one if you send the same enquiry twice, so read the list before you send anything.

It also does not confirm that any of these caterers will take four hundred covers on your date. Capacity is a calendar question, and a calendar is not on a website. What the run gives you is every credible operator in the city with a way to reach most of them, which is the part that used to take a week.

Questions buyers ask about this

Why search one city rather than the whole country?
Because a caterer who cannot get to your venue is not a caterer. Restricting the search to the city meant almost nothing had to be thrown away for being in the wrong place, and the shortlist is composed of operators who actually work that market.
Does the search confirm they can handle 400 guests?
No. It screens for full service operators who present themselves as doing corporate events at scale. Whether a specific caterer is free on your date and can staff four hundred covers is a phone call, and it always will be.
